By Clint Demeritt | October 13, 2011 9:40 AM EDT

The iPhone 4S releases Friday and with pre-orders already sold out tech heads are pretty excited.

However, there is a notable group of detractors that aren’t too excited about the new iPhone. They’re called Android users. By John D. Sutter and Doug Gross

(CNN) — Apple fans — including co-founder Steve Wozniak — lined up on Friday morning for a chance to buy the iPhone 4S, the latest in the company’s line of “Jesus Phones,” which includes many under-the-hood improvements.

The lines, which drew thousands, were part exercises in tech commercialism and part homages to Steve Jobs, Apple’s other co-founder, who died last week following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

by Don Reisinger

Even as the iPhone 4S is just hitting store shelves today, Apple is hard at work on future product launches, a new report claims.

According to All Things Digital, which spoke with Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeff Fidacaro, Apple is sending the iPad 3 into production this quarter. Fidacaro told All Things Digital that he didn’t know exactly how many iPad 3s Apple has ordered, but based on his “supply chain checks,” he believes 600,000 to 1 million iPad 3 units will be built this quarter.

October 12th, 2011 No comments

By Katie Marsal

Spurred by the recently announced Amazon Kindle Fire and its $199 price, Apple is rumored to be exploring a new low-cost iPad for release in the first few months of 2012.

Analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities has been touring China and Taiwan and meeting with component suppliers, where he has heard rumblings of a so-called “iPad mini” arriving next year. The “mini” name doesn’t necessarily refer to the size of the device, he said, but a lower entry-level price.

October 12th, 2011 No comments

CUPERTINO, Calif. –  The iPhone 4S won’t be out for a few more days, but those with older devices can start seeing improvements Wednesday.

Apple is making its iOS 5 mobile software available as a free upgrade for the iPhone 4 and 3GS, both iPad models and later versions of the iPod Touch.

Among other things, the new software will allow users to sync content on devices wirelessly, without having to plug the device to a Mac or Windows machine. It has iMessage, which lets people send texts, photos or videos to other Apple devices over Wi-Fi or a wireless carrier’s data network, rather than on a cellular network.

October 7th, 2011 No comments

By Lena Kim | October 7, 2011 9:11 AM EDT

By now, unless you live under a very large Nexus Prime-shaped rock, you’ve probably heard about Apple’s new darling, the Siri Personal Assistant – a voice-controlled application that understands voice commands by people who speak like people and not like elocution robots.

Analysts have made much of the voice-controlled assistant by analysts, many of whom are particularly intrigued by Siri’s implications for the future of mobile search. Wall Street forecaster and Seeking Alpha contributor Jason Schwarz noted in a post last week that Siri’s search capability has already been proven through its partnerships with Citysearch, Opentable and Taxi Magic.
